The main mission of Sanrio Foundation’s “Children’s Smile” project is to bring smiles
and help to children in hospitals around the world.

Sanrio Foundation brings Hello Kitty mascot and other Sanrio characters to the hospitals, where they interact with little patients by distributing small gifts, taking pictures and even organising birthday celebrations for the most needing ones.

In the more underprivileged countries, Sanrio Foundation supports the hospitals themselves by donating the primary necessities and essential products. The image of Sanrio’s characters is also given free to the hospitals to decorate children’s rooms and spaces
or producing social purpose products.

Sanrio Foundation operates in different countries working with local charity organisations to reach the biggest possible number of hospitals as well as collaborating on common
projects, fund-raisings and social activities.

“Children’s Smile” has moved their first step in 2010 by visiting the hospitals in Italy,
Romania and Ukraine.

Roberto Lanzi, the President of the Foundation declares: “I will be thankful to Sanrio for all my life for giving me the possibility of taking care of the Foundation. I have been active in charity since I was 15 and, please believe me, there is nothing in our life that can you give you more satisfaction than this, no cars, boats, watches and money can give us more than
a smile of a kid.”

Sanrio has been involved in many different charity programmes over the years.
The structure of the company as social communication business as well as its philosophy “Small Gift Big Smile” show how important for Sanrio is bringing smiles and spreading happiness.

“Children’s Smile” project will aim for anything to make children’s
stay at the hospital less painful.

	Sanrio For Smiles Exhibition” has been curated by Christian Gancitano and Sanrio Foundation and was shown for the first time at Mi Japan, a festival dedicated to Japanese culture in Milan in May 2011. The edition of the event was called “Mi Japan for Japan” and the main aim is to rise founds for the victims of tsunami, which took place in Northern Japan on March 11th. "The Sanrio For Smiles Exhibition" involves more then twenty contemporary international artists who are reinterpreting different Sanrio characters: Simone Legno, Tomoko Nagao, Mun Schatje, Yuki Miyazaky, Yosuke Veno, Jana Brike, Candy Bird, Nathalie Pirotte, Heidi Alamanda Juan Muniz, Beatrice Morabito, Max Papeschi, Francesco De Molfetta, Lostfish Elodie, Japi Honoo, Ania Tomicka, Margarita Surnaite, Matteo De Longis, Massimo Festi, El Gato, Aldo Sergio, Alessandra Maschetti, Pokoponi Uapan. All the proceeds from the sales will be donated to Japanese Red Cross Earthquake and Tsunami relief efforts. The exhibition is a part of bigger project called “Sanrio For Smiles”, which comes from a design created remarkably after the Tsunami disaster by Sanrio Japan. The design shows Hello Kitty with My Melody, Chococat, Cinnamoroll and the Little Twin Stars placed together on the Japanese flag as they fly in “super hero” style to bring joy and smiles. Sanrio Foundation will use “Sanrio For Smiles” design to produce limited edition items with selected licensees to be sold in the EMEA territories. All the profits from the sales will be donated to Japanese Red Cross. “Sanrio For Smiles Exhibition” has been shown from May 20th till May 22nd at beautiful, historical location – Umanitaria in Milan. Many thanks to Mi Japan, Xpo, Canon, Sosushi and Molo for coordinating the event.

After the disastrous events, which took place in Northern Japan on 11th March 2011,
Sanrio Foundation desires to show its alliance and offer support to the victims with
a special project “Sanrio For Smiles”.

Sanrio Foundation has been already operating for almost a year and, apart from its
regular projects, which involve bringing smile and help to children in hospitals, in case
of these recent catastrophic events will join the Japanese Red Cross to arrive with direct
aid and donations to the suffering ones.

Sanrio Foundation uses the “Sanrio For Smiles” design created in Japan to produce
limited edition items with selected licensees to be sold in the EMEA territories.
All the Sanrio proceeds from the sales will be donated to Japanese Red Cross.

The “Sanrio For Smiles” design shows the core values of the Sanrio characters as kawaii and happiness, portraying Hello Kitty with My Melody, Chococat, Cinnamoroll and the Little Twin Stars placed together on the Japanese flag as they fly in “super hero” style to bring joy and smiles.

The project launches with a “Sanrio For Smiles Exhibition” on May 19th during a
festival dedicated to the Japanese culture in Milan, Mi Japan.
A number of international artists have been chosen to create special artworks
reinterpreting the Sanrio characters, with all the proceeds from the final auction
going to the Sanrio For Smiles fundraising campaign.

The first partner to join the project is Clooci, with a limited edition line of watches
in partnership with Nooka and personalized by various International artists.

In October 2010 Sanrio Foundation was established to manage Sanrio's social responsibility actions.

The main mission of Sanrio Foundation is to bring smiles to children in hospitals as well as help the hospitals in less privileged countries around the world.
